Irony on top of irony

Odd news story of the day: A man in Israel wrestled a leopard to the floor after the animal leapt through his bedroom window. In what is surely the understatement of the year, he said, "This kind of thing doesn't happen every day." (I didn't even know there were leopards in Israel.)

The man was sleeping in his bed with his cat, and his young daughter was also in the bed. Why wasn't the girl in her own bed?

She had been frightened...by a mosquito. Yeah, this was much less scary!

Baby Bird!

Has it really been a month since I last posted? OK, I'll try to do better.

Anyway...someone I know from another website has mating pair of Eclectus parrots that recently had a baby. The egg hatched just over three weeks ago, and every few days we are treated to another picture of the chick. No, the bird is not sick -- baby birds look like that! If you scroll down a few entries, there is a picture of a pair of adult birds.

Eclectus are unusual in that they are extremely sexually dimorphic -- that is, the male and female are very different in appearance. In this case, the male is bright green, while the female is red and purple. For many years, scientists actually thought they were different species. I have seen only a few Eclectus parrots in person, but they always seem to be quiet and friendly.
